Anthony's Fine Dining (Pope-Walton House)

The Pope-Walton House began rising in Wilkes County around 1797 and survived the Civil War when Sherman's troops looted but spared it, reportedly because Mary Pope Walton and her infant daughter sheltered inside. In 1964 the Atlanta restaurateur Dayton Smith dismantled the antebellum mansion and spent three years reassembling it brick by brick on three acres in Buckhead, where it became Anthony's Fine Dining for decades. Guests and staff long reported a woman's apparition drifting up and down the grand wooden staircase, the laughter of unseen children, voices in empty rooms, and attic lights that switched on by themselves. The restaurant closed around 2011, and the house now operates as a private events venue called The Estate, its old staircase and salons still standing.
