Local lore holds that a girl was killed inside a house that once stood along the road and her body was hidden in a well on the property, and longtime residents trade a familiar dare: drive the road at night with your headlights off and you may glimpse her standing at the edge of the trees. Families who lived nearby in the 1990s recount kids sneaking out to walk the pitch-black stretch and feeling, without fail, that something was watching them from the dark. No newspaper or court record has ever confirmed a real murder, leaving the well and the girl firmly in the territory of told-and-retold legend.
