Pyatt-Doyle House
The Pyatt-Doyle House is a centuries-old dwelling on Highmarket Street in Georgetown's historic district, and its haunting centers on a sorrowful female figure. Residents and visitors describe a woman in blue who appears seated in a bedroom rocking chair, swaying quietly with a small bundle, an infant, cradled in her arms. The rocking chair is said to move on its own when placed in that room, and footsteps are reported moving through the house when no living person is walking. The image of a grieving mother forever rocking her baby is among the most frequently retold of Georgetown's residential hauntings. The account is documented in Elizabeth Huntsinger's Ghosts of Georgetown books and repeated on regional ghost-tour and haunted-place guides covering the old port town's private homes.
