Audubon House and Gardens
Harbor pilot and master wrecker Captain John H. Geiger built this home between roughly 1846 and 1850, raising a large family here. The house was saved from demolition and opened as a museum in 1960. Geiger's ghost is the most reported spirit, seen as a distinguished man in 19th-century dress at upstairs windows and on the balcony, and walking the gardens, said by some to guard a fortune rumored buried on the grounds. The haunting is described as protective and proprietorial; objects reportedly move when visitors misbehave, and one guest claimed an icy hand gripped his wrist after trying to take an item. Tied to the home's yellow-fever-era past, children's voices and laughter have been captured on EVP recordings, and a young girl has been reported on an upper floor. Visitors also describe a tobacco scent, footsteps, and a watchful presence, and the museum has been investigated by several paranormal groups.
