Curry Mansion Inn
This grand Victorian mansion was begun under William Curry, a shipwreck salvager said to be Key West's first millionaire, and reworked into its present form by his son Milton around 1905. Now the Curry Mansion Inn, it is reputed to be among the island's most haunted lodgings. Chief among the spirits is Aunt Sally, a cherished housekeeper famed for creating Key lime pie in the mansion's kitchen, whose presence is felt throughout the rooms; a visiting psychic reportedly encountered a spirit named Sarah by the kitchen hearth. On the second floor, witnesses describe the sound of coins dropping and sheets being folded by unseen hands, possibly a maid displaced during a storm. Guests also report strange lights around the widow's walk, flickering lights, ghostly footsteps, and unexplained temperature drops. The mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a centerpiece of Key West ghost tours.
