Greenwood Plantation
Greenwood is a towering Greek Revival mansion ringed by 28 white columns, originally built in 1830 by William Ruffin Barrow. The original house was struck by lightning and burned to the ground in 1960, leaving only the brick columns and chimneys standing, before being rebuilt to the original specifications using photographs and the surviving foundations. The property, which has appeared in films and now operates as a bed-and-breakfast, carries a long-standing haunted reputation. The most frequently reported apparition is a lady in a flowing white dress who is seen walking the grounds and vanishes when approached. Visitors also describe a young boy believed to have lived on the estate, sudden chills in certain rooms, and the parlor piano sometimes playing on its own. Security cameras are said to occasionally capture unexplained moving light anomalies at night. Greenwood's turbulent history, spanning antebellum wealth, the Civil War, and the 1960 fire, feeds its eerie atmosphere.
