Built in the 1800s, Oakland Hall stands behind a wide colonnaded porch on Greensboro Road in Eatonton, a private estate that has weathered two centuries of Putnam County history. Local lore holds that a disabled young girl was once confined to the house by her family, kept away from the world beyond its walls. Yet her presence is said to be anything but mournful: current owners report hearing her laughter and the unmistakable sounds of a child at play drifting through the rooms, as though her spirit finally roams the home freely. The estate's reputation grew when it was featured on an episode of the television series Ghost Hunters. Today it remains a private residence, its playful resident lingering in the quiet hours.
