The Olde Pink House
Begun in 1771 for James Habersham Jr., this Reynolds Square mansion is one of the few colonial-era structures to survive the great fires that swept Savannah, its brick walls plastered white in the Georgian fashion. The plaster never held: the red brick bled through to a soft pink that a later owner finally embraced, and the color became the building's name.
Habersham, who died here, is said to still play host. Diners and staff describe a gentleman in colonial dress greeting guests by candlelight, tapers that will not stay lit, and a figure that slips into the cellar tavern below.
Now a celebrated restaurant, the Olde Pink House wears its history in every brick, where flickering candlelight and old plaster make the after-hours quiet feel watched.
