Riverview Hotel

Built in 1916 on the banks of the St. Marys River, the Riverview Hotel was run for nearly a century by the Brandon sisters, who greeted Cumberland Island ferry travelers with southern charm and home cooking. Of its rooms, none draws more whispers than Room 8, where guests have long reported a male presence that lingers in the corner and slips away the moment anyone turns to look. The hotel's most enduring tale comes from a coastal storm that knocked out power to the entire building except Room 8, where a corded bedside lamp kept burning so persistently that electricians cut into the wall trying, and failing, to explain it. To this day staff and visitors describe shadowy figures, the faint smell of cigar smoke, and the sense of being quietly watched by a guest who never checked out.
