1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa

Billed as 'America's Most Haunted Hotel,' the Crescent opened in 1886. Lore traces the most active spot, Room 218, to an Irish stonemason called Michael who allegedly fell to his death during construction; guests report pounding walls and lights and televisions toggling on their own. The hotel's darkest chapter came in the late 1930s, when con man Norman Baker ran it as a bogus cancer hospital, charging desperate families while patients died and were quietly wheeled to a basement morgue. That morgue, with its autopsy table, is still toured nightly. Other recurring spirits include Theodora, who tidies belongings in Room 419; a nurse pushing a phantom gurney; Dr. Ellis, betrayed by the scent of cherry pipe tobacco; and a misty figure tied to the building's 1908-1934 years as a women's conservatory, seen falling from a third-floor balcony. The hotel has been investigated on Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures.
