Emily Morgan Hotel
Built in 1924 as the Gothic-style Medical Arts Building, this tower stood directly across from the Alamo and operated for decades as a medical center, housing doctors' offices and a small hospital before conversion to a hotel in 1984. Carved gargoyles depicting ailments still glare from the facade. Guests and staff report phenomena tied to its clinical past: lights and phones turning on by themselves, doors opening and closing, apparitions of nurses, elevators that move on their own, and a sense of unseen presences. The seventh, twelfth, and fourteenth floors, near the former operating and morgue levels, plus the basement, are considered most active. The site also lies on the 1836 Alamo battlefield. In 2015, USA Today ranked the Emily Morgan among the most haunted hotels in the world.
