Marrero's Guest Mansion

Cigar maker Francisco Marrero built this Victorian mansion to bring his beloved Enriquetta to the island, where they married and raised eight children. According to local legend, Francisco was already married back in Cuba; after he died, his first wife learned of the marriage and the estate, and Enriquetta was banished from the home with her children. Before leaving she reportedly vowed she would always remain in spirit, and guests and staff say she never truly left. Her presence is reported most strongly in Room 18, said to have been her bedroom, where visitors describe lights and the TV turning on and off, items rearranged, doors opening on their own, and a woman's figure glimpsed in mirrors and hallways. Guests in former nursery rooms have reported the sound of babies crying at night. Considered one of Key West's best-known hauntings, the mansion now openly embraces Enriquetta's story.
