Riondo's Ristorante

Now an Italian restaurant in Galveston's historic Strand District, Riondo's occupies a building that once served as a private home. According to local lore documented by Community Impact and ABC13, during the catastrophic 1900 Storm a nurse working in the house pulled people floating past in the floodwaters in through a window, then separated the survivors from the sick and the dead. Her close contact with the sick is said to have led to her own death, and she is believed to haunt the building still. A paranormal investigation held at the site reportedly captured dozens of EVP voices on recording equipment, with the disembodied voices identifying themselves as victims of the "great storm." A caretaker restoring the home also reported hearing a woman's voice, and a chest of drawers and a piano are said to act on their own. The restaurant operates today in the heart of the downtown district.
