Six Pence Pub
A British couple from across the Atlantic, Wally and Doris, opened a snug alehouse on Bull Street that became "Wally's Sixpence," a home away from home for expatriates and locals alike. With no kitchen of its own in the early years, Doris prepared lunches at her nearby house and carried them in to the regulars; new owners took over in 1999, added a full kitchen, and the place endured as one of Georgia's most authentic English pubs. Long after Wally's passing, staff insist he never quite left: light bulbs burst from their sockets, the temperature drops without warning, and pans are swept off the kitchen counters by unseen hands. One manager swore his office chair spun a slow circle and slid across the floor untouched. The hauntings seem to favor the employees over the guests, as if the old proprietor is simply keeping a watchful eye on the running of his pub.
