The Buford House

This two-story adobe was built in 1880 by George Washington Buford, an early Tombstone settler who made his fortune in mining; over the years it served as a boarding house, private home, and bed-and-breakfast, and reportedly once hosted John Wayne. Tragedy steeped the house early: three of Buford's children are said to have died young inside it, and their playful spirits are reported to be heard and felt. The most cited haunting stems from a later shooting in which a resident shot a woman named Petra Edmunds outside the house, then killed himself; his angry spirit is blamed for targeting female guests. Reported phenomena include the front doorbell ringing around 3 a.m. with no one outside, rapping inside the walls, faucets and lights turning on and off, unexplained footsteps, and women feeling an unseen hand touch their hair or neck. It closed as a B&B around 2020 but remains a noted haunted landmark.
