Victoria's Black Swan Inn

This Victorian home on Salado Creek sits on land tied to the 1842 Battle of Salado Creek and a far older Native American site, giving it a reputation as one of the most haunted homes in Texas. The land was settled by the Rippstein family in 1867; German immigrant Heinrich Mahler bought it in 1887 and ran a dairy farm, and the present house dates to the early 1900s. The property carries a string of tragedies: Joline Woods Street died of cancer in 1959, and her husband, attorney Hall Park Street Jr., was found dead in 1965 in a death ruled suicide but long considered controversial; a later owner's mother died in her bedroom there. Guests, staff, and ghost-hunting teams report a 'lady in white,' mischievous child spirits, dolls that relocate, eerie music, doors opening and closing, and dramatic cold spots. It now operates as an events venue.
