Hampton-Lillibridge House
Built around 1797 by Rhode Island native Hampton Lillibridge, this clapboard four-story house is among Savannah's oldest buildings, a rare wooden survivor of the 1820 fire that consumed much of the city. Lillibridge died of yellow fever in 1801, and the place later served as a boarding house.
In 1969 antiques dealer Jim Williams bought it at 310 East Bryan Street, moved it roughly 600 feet to its current St. Julian Street spot, and restored it. During the move, workers reportedly fled the sounds of a violent struggle in empty rooms, and Williams eventually invited a bishop to perform an exorcism.
The lore that followed names a figure dressed in black, doors that slam unbidden, and a deep cold over the upper floor. Today it is often called Savannah's most haunted house.
