Jerome Grand Hotel

Built in 1926 as the United Verde Hospital, this hilltop landmark treated miners and townspeople until it closed in 1950, reopening as a hotel in 1996. The most-cited spirit is Claude Harvey, a maintenance worker found in 1935 crushed beneath the building's Otis elevator under circumstances never fully explained; staff on the graveyard shift report seeing him near the boiler room and stairs. Guests describe apparitions of a nurse and a woman in white, a doctor in a lab coat carrying a clipboard, phantom coughing and labored breathing, the smell of cigars and flowers, and the sound of a gurney rolling down empty halls. The third floor is considered the most active part of the hotel. The front desk keeps guest logbooks of paranormal encounters, filling several 300-page notebooks since 1996.
