Jerome State Historic Park (Douglas Mansion)
Mining magnate James S. "Rawhide Jimmy" Douglas built this hilltop mansion in 1916 above his Little Daisy Mine, designing it to double as a hotel for visiting mining investors and officials. The Douglas heirs donated it to the state in 1962, and it now houses a mining museum at Jerome State Historic Park, overlooking the Verde Valley. The mansion is tied to Jerome's broader haunted reputation, rooted in the many deaths from mining accidents and disease during the boom years. The park leans into this history with after-dark "Flashfright" tours through the mansion, where guides recount its ghostly side. As one of Jerome's grandest surviving structures from the copper era, the museum preserves the Douglas family's legacy while its documented haunted programming and its place in the "haunted city's" lore keep its reputation alive among visitors.
