Maplecroft
After her 1893 acquittal, Lizzie Borden left the murder house and bought this Queen Anne mansion in Fall River's affluent Highlands district, christening it 'Maplecroft' and carving the name into the front step. She lived here for decades under the name 'Lizbeth,' increasingly shunned by polite society, and died in the home in 1927 at age 68, after which she was waked in the parlor. Paranormal groups and researchers have investigated the property over the years, and many come away convinced it is haunted by Lizzie's own spirit. During a 2018 investigation, a psychic reported numerous orbs of light in the front parlor and a vivid sense of being transported back to an Easter party with children and piano music. After stints as a planned bed-and-breakfast, Maplecroft is again a private residence and not open to the public, but it remains one of the Borden saga's most storied addresses.
