Oak Grove Cemetery
Established in 1855, Oak Grove Cemetery is the final resting place of the entire Borden family — murdered father Andrew, stepmother Abby, sister Emma, and Lizzie herself, whose ground-level marker is simply engraved 'Lizbeth.' The Borden plot is so visited that black directional arrows are painted on the cemetery roads leading to it from the Prospect Street granite arch. Visitors lingering near the graves frequently describe an eerie sensation of being watched and a feeling of uneasiness over the grounds. Reported phenomena include screaming heard from the direction of the Borden plot and strange unexplained lights after dark. The site embraces its reputation: the Lizzie Borden House runs guided Oak Grove Cemetery tours, and guests can add an EMF reader to hunt for activity around the family's monument, making the 120-acre Gothic Revival burial ground one of Fall River's recognized paranormal stops.
